What are terpenes?
Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in many different plants. Any scent or flavor you smell in
cannabis is directly because of this. They interact with receptors and neurotransmitters in a person’s
body giving off therapeutic effects. Every Terpene can be different giving off various results. These
include uplifting and sedated outcomes a person can feel.
Terpenes: The entourage effect
Working with cannabinoids and other compounds, terpenes create the effect known as the “entourage
effect.” This term was introduced by scientist Raphael Mechoulam who spoke about how the
cannabinoids and terpenes interact with each other to influence how the various strains work with our
endocannabinoid system. This can introduce many levels on how our body reacts whether it makes up
for energized or relaxed. Terpenes don’t necessarily give our body a “high” but as mention earlier, can make you feel relaxed and energized.
Different type of terpenes and their effects:
1.) Pinene: Energized and focused effects. Contains a Pine aroma
2.) Limonene: Uplifting and mood–enhancing effects. Scent known to be citrusy
3.) Caryophyllene: Relieved pain and ant–anxiety effects. Top choice for relaxation
4.) Myrcene: Relaxing and Sedative effects. Earthy and musky aroma.
